The Australia-Japan Society recently celebrated its 25th anniversary with a dinner at Opal Cove Resort. The Consul-General of Japan, Masato Takaoka, delivered a speech and presented a Certificate of Commendation to the president of the Society, Cr Rodney Degens, for all the work the Society has done over the years.He pointed out that the script in Japanese stated that the year was not 2015 but the 27th year of the present emperor, emphasising the difference in our two cultures.
Stephanie Egan and Ursula Cooper from Bishop Druitt College, part of the orchestra which will do a tour through Japan next December, played flute and cello musical items to the delight of the audience and the visiting taiko drummer, Kiyomi Calwell, organised a loud workshop of drummers who thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
Five students from Sasebo who were visiting Bishop Druitt College attended with Ken Oyama from Sasebo City Council and also two Lions Club students from Nagoya in Japan so it was an international night.

この度、豪日協会は25周年の祝賀会をオパールコーヴリゾートにて行いました。
在シドニー日本国総領事の高岡正人氏より祝辞をいただき、また当協会会長のロドニーディケンズ市議へ、これまでの功労を称え表彰状が贈られました。
高岡氏は、日本語で書かれた年について、2015年という西暦ではなく、現天皇の即位年を意味する和歴であるとういう二つの文化の違いを教えてくださいました。
今年12月に日本ツアーを行う予定のオーケストラに所属するビショップドルイト学院のステファニー（Stephanie Egan）とアースラ（ Ursula Cooper）が、フルートとチェロを弾いて聴衆を喜ばせ、また出席いただいた和太鼓演奏者のキヨミ・カルウェル氏が催したドラマー練習に参加して、みんなとても楽しんでいました。
ビショップドルイト学院へ体験留学に来ている佐世保からの5名の生徒が佐世保市役所の大山氏と共に参加し、また名古屋のライオンズクラブから2名の生徒も参加して、国際的な夜になりました。
金子様がご出席されなかったのが残念です。
